Dhaka, Aug 13 (bdnews24.com)–The Dhaka University Syndicate will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday over withdrawal of the expulsion order of independence architect Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the law department after 61 years.
Mujib got enrolled in the department in 1948 and was expelled in 1949 for leading a movement in support of demand for the increase of fourth grade employees' wages.
Vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Friday told bdnews24.com: "We have called a special meeting of the Syndicate over withdrawal of his expulsion."
Pro-VC professor Harun-or-Rashid said emergency meeting of the Syndicate means a very important discussion. "Withdrawal of Mujib's expulsion is a very important issue," he added.
This is the only issue to be discussed in the meeting on Saturday.
The matter was highlighted recently as Bangladesh Unnayan Sangbadik Forum sent a letter to president Zillur Rahman, also the chancellor of the university, demanding the withdrawal of Mujib's expulsion from the university.
The forum also sent a copy of the letter to the DU VC.
